All my plants seem to be enjoying the immense amount of rain we've gotten lately. Here are the latest pictures proving that they are soaking it all in:
As you can see I finally added stakes but I didn't go with the traditional ones you can find at Lowes. Instead I went over to plumbing and picked up a 10 foot piece of pvc pipe and asked my sweet husband to cut them into thirds for me. They seem to be extremely sturdy and should last longer than a piece of wood might. We'll see...
DH's co-worker was nice enough to gift me some tomato plants so I added two more to the corner section & two in a container on the deck.
And that red pepper plant that I thought was kaput? Well maybe not! I see some signs of life still in it so I'm just going to wait and see what happens.
I read this tip on mysquarefootgarden.net for my tomato & pepper plants:
Save egg shells and allow them to dry. Combine 1 dozen egg shells with 1 gallon of water, allow to steep for 24 hours. Water the pepper plants and discard the egg shells (or add to your compost pile). Repeat as often as you wish, up to every 3 weeks.
The plants reportedly like the calcium found in egg shells so I made up the mixture and applied 1/2 - 1 cup on each plant. As a beginner I need all the help I can get!
Now it's your turn...how is your garden doing this week?
