Eating from the Pantry: Lazy Cabbage Casserole (aka Cabbage Rolls)

  Lazy Cabbage Casserole
                                                      adapted from this recipe

1 lb hamburger, cooked
1 cup rice
1/2 head of cabbage, rough chopped
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
15oz tomato sauce
8 oz tomato sauce
garlic powder
salt
pepper

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray casserole dish with Pam. Pour both cans of tomato sauce in a bowl and additional 2 cups of water; mix.

Layer 1/2 of the chopped cabbage, 1/2 the onion, and 1/2 the garlic; season with garlic powder, salt & pepper. Then add 1/2 hamburger, 1/2 rice and 1/2 tomato sauce. Then repeat layers adding the rice & tomato sauce on top.

Cover & bake for 1 1/2 hours.

*The original recipe uses instant rice & diced tomatoes, but because I used long grain rice & tomato sauce (no diced tomatoes) I had to cook for an additional 30 minutes for a total of 1 1/2 hours. If you use the diced tomatoes and/or instant rice then an hour would be good, but my rice wasn't cooked through after an hour.
